Yes. Barclay's say the pound is being shorted - and interest rates less likely to fall.
Liz Truss mark 2 in the making.

I am still yet to use Optimal, as when I went to send some £ to fund my account, my UK bank gave me a warning message that I was wary of. By the time I was ready to give them a call, £ had fallen a big figure so I didn't bother although it has recovered now.
I don't really get the antipathy towards Wise or the small man syndrome , but it is a particularly British trait to build something or someone up and then knock them if they are seen as being too successful . I have never had a problem with them for my trifling pension and will stick them, but then I like being in a minority ...

Ah but you're looking at it from the perspective of someone who already has an account, GAO
The issue here is with trying to set one up? I tried to use Wise a couple of years ago for a one-off large transfer and despite being a customer previously, had to jump through hoops and ended up with an account which I didn't want or need. Their website was one of the most user-unfriendly I've ever encountered (until Skipton!). If these companies pee off enough existing and potential customers it's no wonder that there's always a young, hungry understudy waiting in the wings to seize their chance.

I have not tried personally - although someone I know with a decidedly dodgy history who has - but it seems Monzo may have a more "relaxed" attitude towards vetting customers - which may reinforce QS's comment about "young, hungry understudies" waiting.
Personally I use Wise without problems - but as they say "past performance is no guarantee of future results"
Finally, just for background information - https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/u ... r-AA1t3gN2

Seen a few more posts on Social media this morning from long-term Wise customers reporting dificulties getting re-verified. They are giving it up as too much aggravation. Like we have just found, it is pretty easy to set up a new account elsewhere.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

After my abortive attempt at signing up with XE my mrs had a go. She thought she had been successful and when trying to do her first transfer she was unclear about filling in all the boxes. It sounds like she has to warn XE first that she is going to transfer to their account (with Barclays apparently) XE then buys euros and then sends them on to her account. I am guessing this is similar to what goes on at Wise, except Wise does all this in seconds after filling in one familiar procedure on their site. Anyway, after seeking clarification about how to do it, the XE person kept insisting we have to transfer as a business account. Wife insisted she is not a business but a private person doing a simple pension movement. XE said "We don't do personal accounts". There you have it folks. From the horse's mouth.Sparkle wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2024 2:28 pm Xe for me after problems with Currencyfair losing my money several times. Xe was easy to set up - if I remember a copy of my passport and my email address. I transfer my private pension over monthly and before I've logged out of the Xe site and gone on to my French bank account it's arrived already. When I first set it up earlier this year I sent £500 over to check it out I was charged £1.99 on my UK account - I don't pay any charges now so it may be that transfers under a certain amount incur a charge? I use my PC for making the transfer not a mobile phone although there is the app if you want to use it.
Another one bites the dust.
