I think that subsidising the installation of heat pumps should be dependent on the property having the best possible insulation. This seems to be the last consideration of many people, apparently including politicians supporting subsidies for energy.

My electric supplier in their hints on saving power blames refrigerators for using unnecessary power, but the energy they use is released into the house as heat, so they are reducing the heat required from other sources for much of the year.
