Travelling UK to France & back

For anyone who may be interested I just thought I mention it here cos I didn't quite know where to post it (do we need a travel section?) that our friends returned to the UK yesterday the ones with the bed and other h/hold articles that we given them. This is what was said about their journey back:

We arrived at the ferry port (Caen) 2 hours before departure but as we pulled up they were asking passengers to get in their cars for boarding. We were searched and a sniffer dog was sent into the back of the van fortunately all was OK and they were very polite. We sat for a very long time the other side and the ferry was absolutely full.

When they came over the van was waived through no checking just their passports stamped.
