Hope things don't come in threes

A few weeks ago a scooter was on fire outside our longere & was finally dealt with by the pompiers.
Today just after 1400hrs smoke was blowing across our recently cut field towards the house & on investigation it was our hedgerow on fire.
The pompiers were called & we proceeded to cart buckets of water about 400m to the fire until our neighbour arrived with his bowser.
We fortunately kept it under control until the pompiers arrived & left them damping everything down.
It could have been a catastrophe had we not smelt the smoke as the fire was growing despite our fireman efforts.

It looks quite green - you were very lucky it wasn't able to get a better hold. Any ideas on the cause?

Glad it was brought under control and put out.

This has been a terrible fire year.

Some youngsters were seen having a 'picnic' at the spot an hour earlier so, coincidence? Maybe.
A large old & very dry tree stump was well alight & the fire had spread to a horsey dung heap on our side ofthe hedgerow. We thought at first it was spontaneous combustion but not so as it was only the dry surface on fire. The hedgerow on our side was tinder dry in places as we had had a fauchage machine in to tidy up & I'd recently been around the field boundaries with my axial broyer so lots of tinder waiting to burn.
It was a bit scary with the wind blowing directly towards our house across a cut & very dry field but all's well now & pompiers have checked everywhere with the thermal imaging camera which is good as I'm too old to be running across fields with buckets of water

Slightly off topic but I know someone whose compost bin spontaneously combusted. Water your compost everyone

I believe that's how one of the fires east of London started - a compost heap in someone's garden.

Could have been worse if you was peeing on it at the time
