The Afghans why do they want to come to the West ?
The Taliban have said life will be good and they have changed.
Some might think that could be a fib, but why not go to a neighbouring country where the cultures would be similar.
Not sure many Europeans or even the British will want possibly hundreds of thousands Afgans heading there way.

Where to start, Mysty?
Let's start with those neighbouring countries.
Iran - quite possibly bank-rolling the Taliban
Pakistan - the neighbouring states are as lawless if not more so than Afghanistan with strong Taliban links - remember Malala Yousafzai? Treatment of women is at least as bad as under the Taliban (of old at least. I will give them the benefit of doubt, but not much benefit).
China - have you seen what they are doing to the Moslem minorities?
Tajikistan - ostensibly a free democratic state but still aligned with Russia and currently has help from the CSTO to control its borders to avoid a mass influx of refugees.
Uzbekistan - possibly the most benign neighbour. It had good relationships with the USA but those have deteriorated badly. It is described as an authoritarian state with limited civil rights.
Turkmenistan - ties with Afghanistan as being joint 165th nation for corruption.
And then of course we have the point that many of those educated people in Afghanistan speak English as a second language.

Ask the female half of the population why they want out. Or else read and meditate upon exile's answer.mysty wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:04 pm The Taliban have said life will be good and they have changed.

Thev'e been westernised for over a century, mami's grandad was in the army out there posted from India, as were a number of elderly people I knew long ago.
Not that successive country occupiers have stopped civil wars out there.
To me its all of those soldiers who died over the ages or rather their families I feel for.

While I agree with most of what you say, where do you stop? A lot of Africa could do with heading west.exile wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 3:34 pm Where to start, Mysty?

Totally agree, all the lives, time, and money spent on supporting a corrupt government and they run away along with the presedent.mysty wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 4:29 pmSo many people died or lost limbs for nothing.Doug wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 4:06 pm Thev'e been westernised for over a century, mami's grandad was in the army out there posted from India, as were a number of elderly people I knew long ago.

If only the US would stop interfering, hell bent on "regime change" around the world, and if only the UK would stop following them spouting shite about "special relationships" and such rubbish.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Re: The Afghans why do they want to come to the West ?
My question is : What happened to the Afghan army which was trained with British and American money ? The Taliban were able sweep across the country with apparently little or no resistance. My guess is that they probably deserted fearing reprisals, but there has been absolutely no mention of them.
