International Phonetic Alphabet

Here we are! Thanks to Char for giving it a name for me! Might be handy for the next time we need to spell something out over the 'phone! :D Kilo sounds better than Kardashian (thanks Veem!) and Tango (my donkey's name!) definitely better than Tarantula!

What is the full phonetic alphabet?

Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Golf, Hotel, India, Juliett, Kilo, Lima, Mike, November, Oscar, Papa, Quebec, Romeo, Sierra, Tango, Uniform, Victor, Whiskey, X-ray, Yankee, Zulu

Dare I add...it's also extremely useful to be able to spell out at least your name and address using the French pronunciation. It saves a lot of confusion over 'G's and 'J's if nothing else :)

Indeed! My surname begins with a J - so the soft "gee" sound. I learnt the French alphabet when I used to watch the Muzzy videos with the children back in 2002/3/4. I learnt a lot from those DVDs and CDs - I have much to thank Muzzy for! I still sing the vowel song on occasion! 8-)

Had to learn it in 74, used by all the emergency services, and still use it today.

Actually, that's the NATO phonetic alphabet which is not the same as the International Phonetic Alphabet.

Then there's the French Phonetic Alphabet of which there are variations

@beejay Interesting - I've always spelt out my (sur)name, beginning with D comme David. I see it's Didier in your list. I wonder whether it has evolved over time with certain names becoming more popular than others.

Yes, MAD, I think you must be right - some names in the French list are different to what I’ve seen before.

On the NATO list I’d personally prefer Scotch whisky.
