Classic vessels possess a timeless elegance, maintenance today is expensive. Transporting containers up and down the River Rhine is not a very good idea to earn some money, impossible. What else? Demonstrated for a live audience in the Eastern Docklands of Amsterdam, let's throw a party on a ship. When the ' Succes ' was built in 1897, she was one of the largest and most powerful steam tugs in the Netherlands. Now, almost 120 years later, she is the Netherlands’ oldest steam vessel still in service. In 1960 the boiler system underwent a major refurbishment. The original coal-fired boiler was replaced by an oil-fired system. Current use: following her active service as a tugboat in inland waterway transport, the vessel has been carefully restored and converted into a sailing passenger and party boat.
