Not necessarily better, there is some good paint here but, for example, Dulux is over half the price in Jersey, as is the floor paint I want.

Regarding other paint available in France, Tollens used to be good but it appears we are not the only ones that have found their interior wall paint gives bad coverage. Their radiator paint, however, is excellent. But paint bought in France comes at a price. I've heard people talk about good paint from Lidl but they don't sell it in our area.

Family were supposed to be going to some "drifting" event at the Circuit Val de Vienne. Daughter and boyfriend are probably already nearly there, this half of the family have seen the weather and said "Non merci!" Orange alert in that area, so not a good day to be standing in the mud next to a really wet track! Not sure there'll be much drifting going on either - as they need traction for that don't they?

I know we needed rain, but this is getting boring now! :(

Just when I thought I'd get some garden work done at least this afternoon and tomorrow, nope - wall to wall rain again. We've bought a serious carpet cleaner, awaiting delivery, and after testing it on our filthy house, will be looking for similar jobs in clients' houses! At least that way there may be a trickle of income during "The Wet Season", formerly known as "Autumn".

Brace yourselves for more storms and flooding folks - especially along the coast. :(

Yep, lots of rain. I presume the "Alert" on water consumption will not be renewed on October 31st when it is expected to expire.

"Hurricane Force 12" on the shipping forecast - hold onto your hats in the North West!

Not a good day for me to fly to Gatwick either!

Bon courage, and hope you make it to Gatwick before the storm hits! Here is a translation of a weather warning from France Bleu, courtesy of someone on an FB forum:

"TRANSLATION
The wind will blow strongly in Brittany from this Wednesday, November 1st in the evening. Météo France has also placed Finistère, Morbihan and Côtes-d'Armor on orange alert from 8 p.m. this Wednesday. Gusts of 120 to 140 km/h are expected inland. This is why the SNCF decided to interrupt train traffic throughout the region between this Wednesday 10:30 p.m. and Friday 5 a.m. TGVs, however, should run between Rennes and Paris. As for the sky, Brest airport has decided to interrupt air traffic from this Wednesday 5 p.m. until Thursday 9:30 a.m.
HOLLOWS OF 10 TO 13 METERS
At sea, waves of 10 to 13 meters are expected, gusts of up to 170 km/h. Crossings to the Breton islands are very disrupted. Connections with the Morbihan islands are all canceled this Thursday. This therefore concerns Belle-Ile, Groix, Houat and Hoedic. Connections with Houat and Hoedic are advanced from today, Wednesday. Depending on the sea state, these disturbances could be prolonged on Friday. In Saint-Malo, the 7:50 a.m. departure of Condor Ferries this Wednesday for Jersey-Guernsey is canceled, as are the returns . There will be no rotation this Thursday. Same thing in Finistère. No connections to the Ile de Sein this Thursday. The rotations are also brought forward to this Wednesday towards Ouessant and Molène.
Municipalities are also taking security measures. In Concarneau for example, in Finistère, the municipality is closing traffic and vehicle parking on the corniche from this Wednesday at the end of the afternoon. The quay and ramparts will also be closed to the public. Finally, the Saint-Martin fair will be open depending on weather conditions.
"STAY AT HOME"
In the forest, the ONF, the National Forestry Office, calls on walkers to postpone walks throughout Brittany. A call for caution for this Thursday, but also Friday and this weekend. Tree falls can continue for a few days after the storms, explains the ONF in a press release. In Brest, parks and gardens will be closed from Wednesday. Only access to cemeteries will be possible from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Finally, it is highly recommended not to go for a walk on the coast, to avoid the seaside. In Finistère for example, the mayor of Île Tudy, Eric Jousseaume, calls on walkers to “stay at home” .

Despite all these warnings and precautions, I wonder how many idiots will still be out in the storm "just for the fun of it", putting others at risk if they get into trouble? Stay safe folks!

They were talking on the news of a '99 style storm - I hope not, but best to be prepared.

We've got barns, stables & other outbuildings all with crinkly tin roofs &/or walls which I re-built/re-roofed many years ago & have so far stood up to all mother nature has thrown at 'em.
This coming storm appears to be much worse than anything we've had before & seems like the worst of it will be over night in our neck of the woods.
I'm gonna batten down everything I can think off but it doesn't seem like we'll be getting much sleep tonight.

Chaîne Météo compared this one to 99 and it appears to be less severe. Fingers crossed

This type of storm is called a "Sting Jet" as the wind and pressure profiles looks like a scorpion, with the most powerful bit at the "stinger" end, its a narrow band but dangerous. So stay indoors and stay safe we are further south so should be ok. More info on this website (www.severe-weather.eu)
