I think the U.K. has a fundamental problem in that it doesn’t pay its politicians enough. Don’t we want the best and wouldn’t it be good to encourage people who have run successful companies to apply. But why should they take a massive drop in salary. Compare a BBC presenter who reads an autocue and gets paid £1.5m a year vs someone who runs a G7 economy, defence and affect all our lives gets £161000. No wonder so much corruption exists as MPs see it as a way to boost their earnings

You raise two valid points.

Certainly, ministers should be better rewarded to remove the incentive to obtain funds in other ways. It always surprises me when someone gets paid two or three times to PM just to run a Hospital Trust.

But the flip side is these people paid from the public purse are often overrewarded. Thinking of Gary Lineker on over £1M in particular, but also other BBC staffers. Also, aforementioned Hospital Trust heads on more than the medics in same hospitals (who actually do the work).

Apparently, Liz Truss just told Radio 4 that she wants to follow the advice of Patrick Minford, a fringe economist who said that for Brexit to succeed economically we would have to get rid of farming and manufacturing and live with much bigger wage inequality.

I can't understand for the life of me why anyone would think that was a good idea.

Sadly she is not alone - it is part of the WEF agenda.

The Dutch government is doing something along those lines

Getting rid of farming and manufacturing only leaves hospitality & tourism (and financial services). I recall that was Thatcher's vision as well. Certainly nothing to be proud of or aspire to as a nation.

And it leaves the country at the mercy of the rest of the world's woes. Ukraine effect for example.
