UK bank account(s) closure

Our not wanting (or needing) a smartphone has nothing to do with any of the reasons you state, Hotrodder. Our cheap and cheerful bog standard mobile phones which make and receive calls and sms's suit our needs perfectly - and they don't need to be charged up very often ;) OH's even has a camera 😜

Once you have been "converted" to a smartphone, I'm sure there are all sorts of weird and wonderful things it can do for you and once bitten, you will be hooked for life ! But for the moment, like Liz, we're happy with our nice big screens at home.

you are not alone Hotrodder. My online shopping/banking is done on a laptop using a linux distribution and ethernet cable to it's own router. In my handbag I've a simple mobile phone which can pick up a signal almost everywhere and a smartphone which is sim free and used for photos and entertainment when in wifi hotspots. I also have a small PDA which I take away on trips. It's the size of a smartphone but has a keyboard, built in camera and the capacity of taking more than one sim. I also take a pocket battery wifi unit so as to have my own private network when needed.
Funnily enough I've just been watching a video on twitter where some teens were trying to figure out how to make a call using a rotary phone. Guess who's still got one :shh:

I've got one of the 60's models.
Useful to have in a power cut.

I do not have a smartphone, I do not have a tablet .................. I do not even have a mobile phone. I do have two big screen (17") laptops - the second "just in case".

You can't drop a laptop down a toilet!!!

OK well yes, I do have a wife with a smartphone but I am rarely seen out with her. :)

Decided to open a Résolut account today with euro and Sterling accounts. Some early problems with their scanning software trying to figure out the fuzzy picture on the resident permit but that was sorted. I prefer it on my phone wallet with limited funds and useful when in the UK to get around the currency conversion crap.

I've seen many people giving glowing reports about using Wise (TransferWise) for their bank accounts, as well as a better rate for transferring money. You do need to be quite savvy with smart 'phones though - and even then it has to be a new enough one to do face/fingerprint ID verification. So many security checks to go through - thanks to the super-savvy scammers, but it's all for our own protection. Just makes it a longer, and more stressful process. Bloody scammers!

Same here, although having put my simple mobile on this morning, I logged straight onto my account, no sms ?
However Logging onto our la Poste account gets worse and worse.

@ Hotrodder, there might be problem however, the maintenance of those old, reliable phones. The guys of Franse Télécom who were allowed to service this state owned equipment after a lot of training and studying are now happy pensioners if they are lucky.

I have resisted smartphone so far BUT it would be useful for some things.
I prefer banking stuff etc on a nice big screen in my own home
I prefer using a big screen too but it was very useful to be able to make a payment I’d forgotten using my smartphone while I was away in my tent last weekend.
