I have had a few, "disagreements" one of late on the Facebook French Driving licence group, strangely enough both the latest have been women, who have, whilst in the process of exchanging their licence, noticed that the DVLA had a made a big mistake when they issued their latest card licence, and granted these women entitlement to LGV and buses. It take a great deal of convincing to persuade them that they only have provisional entitlement to those groups

This is the UK government advice on whether/when a licence needs to be exchanged

The equivalent French statement on the need to exchange https://www.service-public.fr/particuli ... tes/A15049

I think you will find there is a number against each stipulating you can drive a bus with a maximum of 16 seats not any bus - and a lorry with a maximum weight of 7500Kg not any lorry.

Exactly although I think the weight has increased to 8.25 ton, but this woman was adamant even sent a photo of her licence, until I pointed out the restrictions in the next column, she then disappeared.

Unlike the crafty git round the corner who gives his son's UK address and gets a replacement sent there every 3 years, totally illegal, he has lived here for 20 plus years, under the radar of course, and DVLA don't want to know about fraudulent applications.

I have no idea what the current rules are (sorry Elsie I know you posted the link but since it does not affect me I haven't opened it) but the rules did change between when Doug had to get his licence changed pdq and the UK leaving the EU. Under freedom of movement it became possible to retain an EU licence from another country for as long as it remained valid. So paper UK licences would be valid up to 70th birthday even though the address shown was not current and plastic licences were valid for the 10 years stated on them.
