Neighbour of choice

#1 Post by L Austin France »

Fred Dibnah is on UK tele tonight & got me thinking what fun it would be to have lived near him.
He's long been a hero of mine. I mean, what's not to like about a fag rolling, beer drinking, steeple climbing, chimney demolishing, steam engine driving good all round bloke's bloke who makes things :)
Who would you like to live near?

Am I allowed to say no-one - at least not within a few km?

On the other hand you would be living next door to something akin to a 1950s scrap yard with heaps and racks of slowly rusting cast iron bits purporting to have come froma railway steam engine, traction engine, road roller and the like.

J's suggestion has much merit.

That's why I chose my words carefully & said 'near him' & not 'next door.'

Mmm I don't know I'll have to think about that, although I'm not sure if anyone I wanted to live near, would want me to live near them.

We did watch some programmes he'd done, I must say he was quite ingenious with some of the things he built, although I hid behind the settee when he clambered up blooming great chimneys. Very clever chap with a schoolboy's enthusiasm towards life. 8-)

No-one too close but my choice would be Sue Pollard who would have me in stitches but would probably drive me potty and Bob Mortimer another one who creases me up  it would have to be someone with my sense of humour as IMHO laughter is the best policy

Some years ago, there was a TV woodworker/furniture restorer called Alan Herd. I liked his painstaking, unsensational approach to the tasks he undertook. He is probably most remembered (if remembered at all) for appearing with Tommy Walsh and/or Eric Knowles but, for me, he was always the most interesting.

He inspired me to take up furniture restoration and, like me, he was a magpie who had a hoard of bits, parts, offcuts, etc. I was particularly impressed with his stock of old glass which he used to replace cabinet door fronts or clock faces. I would love to pop round to his house and ask "Have you got a ...............?"

If not Alan, then five sexy young female sunbathers - who could live as close as they like!

  trust you Loup-garou.

Frans Lanting because I adore his wildlife photography and I'd even offer to carry his camera gear around so that I could learn from him.
