Standing Desks

#1 Post by niemeyjt »

Anyone used a standing desk - where the desk height is raised so you stand at it rather than sit at it?

I am looking at one to see if it helps with my posture / back issues.

If so, any thoughts?

Haven't used one myself, but my son has, for some years & is amazed what a difference it has made to his back problems.

(He is approaching 40 & has had back problems for some years.)

Have either of you niemeyjt demi heard of,seen or used a Tapis acupressure?
A number of years ago I read about them so looked it up and got one from Amazon.fr.
Wonderful, use it most days for 30 minutes to relief back pain/stress when the old back plays up.

Thanks both.

Back recurrence is a side effect of working at home and staying indoors during lock down, (I hope - still awaiting neurologist appointment and confirmation).

Using a better quality chair has failed - so this is the next step.

Interesting about acupressure - others have suggested Su-Jok massager, Kuznetsov's and Lyapko's applicator. Strange how tweaking one area can affect another.

Several years ago I lost a filling, the repair job involved quite a large local anaesthetic, later in the week I had reflexology on my feet and one of the problem areas picked up was mouth and jaw .I hadn’t mentioned anything about the dentist in fact I’d nearly forgotten

I had acupuncture for my neck following a car accident, I did think it helped but I do think you have to be ‘open ‘ to things for them to be successful If you go thinking “this will be rubbish,”chances are it will be

I was skeptical about acupuncture until I tried it and it worked - so it was either coincidental, or there is really something in it.

Regarding standing desks, I had a colleague who swore by them.
There's an interesting piece in the Daily Wail - the go-to organ for medical advice, of course - today about back posture, the need to stretch the back in both directions and shrinking in height as we age.

We've a friend who emigrated to OZ from France who's an acupuncturist and a few years ago when he found out I was having serious problems with weight loss going through chemo because of nausea, he suggested massaging the acupuncture points on my wrists to help ease the problem. I was sceptical, but I'd try anything at that point to avoid being taken into hospital and having intravenous drips, and it was harmless.

Blow me down it worked - I then discovered that there was a product called seabands that has a little bump in a elastic wrist band and with the bump in the right place no more nausea. I know that won't help with your back, but thought it was an example that these treatments do sometimes work.

I just wish there was a magic way to put weight back on though.

Do very much the same Char many years ago I damaged the right hand middle finger base joint, result is now have arthritis in it, by massaging the pressure point at the base of forefinger the pain goes.
Massaging pressure points on the side of forehead behind the eyes relieves sinus headaches as well.
