Vaccination pass needed now even outside at a cafe

We have paper copies, several each stuffed in various places.
Will use it for the first time tonight, in the café.
On Saturday evening at our annual Foire au Vin there's a 'spectacle' costing 23€ per person. There's no dinner, that's the price for the show. Due to the stands being all around the square for the weekend this will be in the adjacent basketball hall and passes will be required, thus giving the organisers a handy let-out for losing money. They are already spreading the word that the pass requirement is putting people off. Nothing to do with the show on offer - an 80s one-hit wonder and another nobody - and the price ! I don't know anybody, French or English, who has a ticket except for the Maire and he's got to go.

I think you're confusing roaming with mobile data - the ability to use the internet from your phone. I'm pretty sure that all French people with a smart phone will have mobile data capability.

You are probably right Dave. As I said I am decidedly non-techy. So are you saying that while calls wll need to be over designated networks, data can be accessed over any available network?

No. In your home country your phone will normally only pick up the network that you’re registered with. When you go abroad your network is unavailable but roaming allows your phone to pick up any available. An oddity is that smaller providers like Free don’t offer a nationwide network of their own but if the Free network is unavailable my Free SIM card roams in France and uses the orange network. If your phone is linked to a network and you have a data package you can use it in your own country or roaming.

Dominic is right, I was just commenting on the difference between roaming and mobile data. Generally roaming is when you are in a different country and you connect to a local network for telephone calls and data (depending on your mobile data deal- usually gigabytes of data).

Oh the benefits of Brexit, the UK are now free to take back control. Their telephone companies are doing just that by re-imposing roaming charges in the EU, with tighter caps on data limits. I have no idea if it's going to be the same for EU people visiting the UK.

It’s quite likely. My Bouygues contract allows roaming ‘in Europe’. I discovered that what it actually means is in ‘the EU’. I found that out the expensive way when visiting my daughter in Switzerland a couple of years ago.

As most here know weve had to go back to the uk a number of times over the past 18months.
Found that our French sim mobiles ate up the top ups and we only rarely used them

It will all be down to money, roaming free charges was forced on the ISP's because they were ripping people off in the EU. They didn't like it because it eroded big fat margins, now the UK can break free. The French companies will impose the same because the UK companies will pass additional charges onto them. All a bit sad considering the infrastructure investment has been made and this is just screwing customers - IMHO.

Although I had put our attestations into the Partner a week or more ago, I completely forgot when going down to the chippy at the bar on Monday. After ordering, I joined my newly arrived from Sunderland friend at his table where he was waiting to be served. When the lady arrived she demanded my paper but let it pass when I explained I was in the 'wrong' car. She had already accepted John's NHS paper.

Before that, on Sunday, no request at Press or Boulangerie and on Tuesday at PO and supermarche. I had it with me then and offered it but was told 'not necessary'.

Does your Free phone actually show an 'R' roaming indicator when it is connected to another French provider? Free have a roaming contract with Orange that expires in 2022. Free's coverage is now quite extensive and in 50 is the only operator in some locations.

In the UK not all providers have country wide coverage so phones sometimes use a provider other than that of the sim installed but do not show the roaming R when doing so.

Well I added the French app to my mobile - loaded flawlessly on my de-Googled Android - so 10/10 for that.

Scanned my Swiss QR and it took it first time also - so 10/10 for that too.

It has a border mode and standard mode - unlike the Swiss app. But the Swiss app says it is verifying the QR code whereas the French app just displays it.
