Price hikes in Supermarkets

We were in Agen this morning and did a shop in Geant Casino.
Goodness me there are some price hikes! I’ve just compared their prices with Super U. There is a 1€50 difference in price on a jar of Nescafé, Actimel 12 1€80 more in Geant. The fresh milk is 1€16 in Geant and 0,83 in Super U.
Ouch. They do have some things that we can’t get locally but these price differences are crazy!

Casino do seem generally pricey - always have been. But like you say, they do have some stuff you can't get in other supermarkets - so we tend to do a minimum shop there occasionally. Their fresh produce always seems good though. They do also (our's does, anyway) have a Gaspillage section, which is something our local Intermarché wouldn't ever entertain doing. We've had some really nice finds in that section - with things not even out of date.

Yes prices are on the march. Super U milk has always seemed cheap to me compared with our competition - Auchan.

Watch out for downsizing as well. Felix Taste as good as it Looks sachets in a 44 pack have not changed in price, but the sachet size has dropped from 100g to 85g. That is an 18% increase in price against a background where the price has been rising over the last 18 months anyway.

Apart from the general price hikes, no doubt using Covid as an excuse, and the effect of the huge increase in diesel costs, Géant Casino are struggling. They've sold off a lot of shops to the SuperU group.

What narks me is that carrefour ,leclerc etc registered massive profits last year,have used covid as an excuse for putting prices up but failing to cut prices when the cost of diesel was next to nothing.No plastic bags means more profit for supermarkets, nothing to do with the environment.

but Leclerc and Lidl or is Aldi are selling baguettes for 29p not that we will be buying them as we believe in supporting our local boulangerie and crikey we really do what with Champetres, Quiche, Crumbles etc

What hasn't helped around here is the fact they didn't put their prices back down after the summer price hike, like they normally do.

baguettes at 29 cents are just to bring people into the shop so they overspend on other products.

When I was eating baguettes I was overspending on dental work.

That's something that really bugs me! It took me a few summers to realise that Inter raised their prices by a third (on average) during the holiday season. We live in a moderately touristy area, never overrun, whatever must it be like in hotspots?
