Burns supper
Is anyone else having a Burns Supper this evening? Our haggis is courtesy of a Scottish farmer/butcher who lives in our area. Neeps and tatties to go with it, but certainly no whisky for me - I hate it.

Take care! Exploding Haggis is a serious hazard - you could end up with third degree Burns.

No Mention of Burns Night
On FiF's predecessors those from the North usually bang on about Burns Night. Does anybody on here mark the occasion?
Although I am not of the "Jock" persuasion (the She Wolf is), I love haggis and we shall be having it with neep and tatties, albeit with a touch of gravy. Additionally, to mark the day, I shall leave the rum bottle in peace at appero'clock and spend a while amongst the single malts.

Sorry Veem I started a thread but got interrupted. When I pressed submit you had put your thread up; perhaps Char could move mine.
I used "Neep" in the singular in my post - I know it usually has an "s" but last year was an exceptional growing year for our neeps and we have an excellent crop of large but not woody roots. So just one necessary tonight!

We can't have anything as my kitchen men turned up this afternoon - electric off, water off etc
With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

Our haggi were supposed to be smuggled over and consumed on 31 December but due to Covid travel restrictions they took refuge in a freezer in Wimbledon.
They are due to travel in April so Burns night has been delayed.

How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

As I have said in the past we are lovers of Haggis but are now unable to get it sent here to France, how do you mange it? we eat it all year round usually with an unhealthy but delicious fry up.

I'm a Jock but I can't stand haggis
but I love neeps and tatties. We miss the wonderful Burns Nights we used to have before coming to France ...

I think you live in our neck of the Charentais woods? Google Monty butcher and you'll find the site of a Scottish farmer/butcher who is fairly local. He makes his own haggis and yesterday's was lovely. He delivers to Confolens once a month.

When we lived in the UK, on 27 or 28 January we would go to Costco and buy loads of the little critters reduced in price and, like Spectrum, eat them through the year from the freezer.
I have never tried the leftovers fried but we do occasionally have clootie dumpling fried up for breakfast- a Full Scottish as it were.
