You bung up one end, but he can't remember if you need to dilute it so you'll need to check that.

He's gone out now - but he left me this link https://www.classicbikehub.uk/Features/ ... 0-exhausts
about half way down the page under the heading Caustic soda.

Many thanks to both of you.

If there is a branch of Espace Emeraude near you they will have it.

If you bung the top end it won't work. It's dilute hydrochloric acid, but I would use the strong stuff that removes cement from tiles, you find it on the same shelf. Get some new exhaust pipe clamps while your at it.

What?
Exhaust clamps? You obviously know nothing about my particular Deutz. The only place clamps could be fitted would be below the bonnet line so how they could be fitted only you would apparently know.
The silencer is a 'drop on' fit with NO clamps possible. I've previously posted that I've drilled & tapped for a bolt just above the bonnet line, which is the only space available, so the thing can't pop off now.

Quite right, why on earth should I know anything about your particular Deutz. Sounds like you have a good quick fix for now.

I tried to identify the model by the tiny fraction showing in the photo. Narrowed it down to a series but no further. Replacement exhausts ranged from about £40 to infinity. I'd start with a pot of nasty fluid and see if it works.
