I know ours were received because I had to sign for my wife and had 2 phone discussions about authorisation to do so. Both calls were answered within 2 or 3 minutes and I have received, completed and had confirmed the letter applying for my signature to be recognised for her. So much more seamless than I expected.

I always scan first then email a copy saying original is in the post.

Great idea but where does one find the email address.
I've just looked on the form & accompanying docs my missus received today for her Life Certificate & I can't find one.

Yes, its a message form. Not an email address that you can use to send a scanned image via.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

And if you send an e-mail asking whether they have received your life certificate they will reply from an e-mail address or phone you.
That was what I did last time I needed to contact them. But the e-mail address I have will not be valid any longer as then they were in Newcastle. Now they are in Wolverhampton.

I doubt very much they want to have a system which has to process scanned copies rather than original signed documents as they are much harder to verify.

I phoned them and it took a while for an answer, I always request the form in French as it was refused once at the Mairie as they didn't understand what they were signing for being in English

Sorry for the belated response - had to dig out my paperwork! I don't want to confuse anyone here just trying to be hopefully helpful. In June last year when claiming my pension I had to email them (Wolverhampton) several times and received responses from them at this address:

TVP.INTERNATIONALQUERIES@DWP.GOV.UK27
