I have developed a set speech that I use to get a doctor's appointment. Works well over the phone. I used to trek out to his surgery on the off chance of finding it open, and often got lucky with a nearly immediate session. For years I didn't work out that he was only open on certain days of the week. Nothing posted at the door so I was completely in the dark. Now I can just phone. The receptionist knows who I am and speaks the time and day slowly a couple of times. Bless her.
Apart from that, I don't do French phone calls.

Research shows that men, on average, speak about 10,000 words per day, and women speak about 40,000.
What the research doesn’t tell you is that it’s not that women are actually saying four times as much, they just have to repeat everything that many times because men don’t listen.
