Since January 1, 2021, British citizens are now nationals of third countries (not covered by the Schengen area) and are subject to compliance with the conditions for entry into the Schengen area provided for in Article 6 of the Schengen Borders Code.
Since they are not covered by the withdrawal agreement, British citizens must have proof of the purpose of their stay and sufficient means of subsistence for the duration of their intended stay.

- Or the British national is staying in a hotel: a hotel reservation must be presented at the border crossing, as well as proof that he or she has at least 65 euros per day for the period covered by the reservation;
- Or the British national has neither a certificate of reception nor a hotel reservation: he/she must be able to prove at the border crossing that he/she has at least 120 euros per day for the period of the stay.

In all cases, British nationals must have a certificate of insurance covering medical and hospital expenses that may be incurred during the stay, including repatriation costs for medical reasons.

Looking around the internet, I've not seen anyone from the UK mention being asked for the attestation at the border. Some people do seem to have sent their own invitation to family and guests as possible justification for the visit.

It seems many mayors don't know anything about the document. It might be more important if your visitor was from a "poor" country or if there was a clampdown for a particular reason? But France has many other immigrants of possible concern.

Perhaps someone should ask the French Embassy in London about it as it or the alternative conditions don't seem to be mentioned on their web site as a travel requirement uk.ambafrance.org

The simple solution is to charge you guests a nominal sum - say 1€ - for their visit. An email to that effect would cover their entry and the sums involved are too small to require registration or declaration.
