Got up early this morning to move cars out of our barn & shift lawn mowers & other such stuff out of the way to make room for our farmer neighbour to deliver a large round of hay.
He said he'll be here first thing but presumably that's the french version 'cos he ain't here yet & it's now looking like rains imminent

We used to swap hay for wood. We had excess hay, that we'd paid the farmer to bale up for us. Then we swapped it for firewood with someone who had horses (and was a forestier). He'd deliver most of the wood, then take the hay as needed, throughout winter, as he had nowhere dry to store it. Regardless of how many times I asked him to give us a day's notice, he'd text asking if he "could pick up in half an hour" - nope, we're still out at work. Or he'd say he'd be there to pick up of an evening - we'd get the tractor going, get the bales ready at the bottom of the drive, then he wouldn't bleddy turn up!

Needless to say, we've stopped that game this year - farmer keeps the excess hay as payment for ours, and we get wood from a different supplier!

Given he farms about 200 Ha, keeps pigs & milking cows, with labourers difficult to find/ keep, I doubt he actually sleeps much.
