It was all in German so it was open up things until you found something that looked familiar.
She is still alive.
Our first aid kit came in an upmarket VW golf we bought secondhand, the car was first registered in early 2001.
Perhaps it is/was mandatory in German cars ..
Yes it is mandatory and there is an associated DIN number describing what has to be included. Automatic TUV (MOT/CT) failure for not having the full kit - and it would not surprise me if the testers went through each item to ensure it was there and in date.

For my needs it covers just about anything you should need for first aid - beyond that, as already posted, 112 is your friend.

All German registered cars have to carry the correct first aid kit. I’ve got quite a few of them lying about. They contain a good selection of bits and pieces. I believe that it’s also a law that at the sight of an accident you have to offer your kit if it’s needed. When I first went to Germany I was told that it had to be an unopened kit and indeed a lot of people carried kits still covered in plastic wrapping but I think something was lost in translation and it should have been a complete kit, if you used anything it needed to be replaced.

There’s the one that came with my Golf. I’ve owned it since 2006 but never looked inside. 🙂

Possibly past it's best used by date.

Isn't that a misnomer? Surely the best date by which to use a first aid kit is never!

I’ve got one of the older boxes on the boat. I use the sticking plaster roll every now and again and it’s fine. The scissors haven’t gone blunt yet either. The bandages look fine for another 25 years of inactivity.

first aid kits in private cars are not mandatory, professional vehicles yes.
