When I was young, boxes of shamrock were sent by my Dublin family for us to wear on the day. My parents declined so I went off to school wearing a hedgerow on my lapel.

I had forgotten about that, even when I sent Happy Birthday greetings to Fran's 60 year old son this morning. When she was in hospital having him her Irish nurse was very keen that he should be named Patrick. Happy Birthday Steve.
