We've got a huge fireplace in the part of the house that isn't habitable yet. One of the main stones on the back of the fireplace is an old grave stone.
There was a bread oven at some stage, but it looks like it was removed so that they could build a garage, which is a shame.
One of our jobs when I've eaten lots of shredded wheat, is to lift a new beam up to check that the mortise that OH has done matches up with the existing tenon. I do find it amazing that no nails were used when these old places were built. But getting the old wooden pegs out of the joints isn't the easiest job in the world, they seem to merge into and become part of the pieces of wood that they're pegging together - which is probably the whole point of them.
