"Diabetes, Alzheimer's, severe motor and hearing disabilities: the list of pathologies incompatible or compatible under certain conditions with driving has been updated since Monday" - it's worth checking the above link (and a good French lesson for the day!)

Is this the same as in the UK? I'm sure my step-father shouldn't be driving anymore (although that's probably his one last pleasure), but his signs of dementure are very worrying.

DVLA should be informed if someone has dementia,
One of the things with driving is a lot of it is automatic, we don’t consciously think about what we are doing it’s a type of learned behaviour,equally some routes are very familiar to us which is why sometimes we arrive at our destination and don’t remember the journey .Its amazing how advanced the dementia is of some people who can still ‘safely ‘ drive.

It mentions diabetes but which one,Type 1or 2 or in fact both. Type 1 is much more likely to suffer from a hypo.

So if diabetic what should one do?

Our insurance company know but should I inform someone else?

As I have a freestyle libre and an insulin pump, I can easily make corrections, but if hypo, I wouldn't drive anyway. Surely that's common sense?

If my skim reading was correct it would only affect driving a goods vehicle or PSV. To avoid being banned you need to be tested by your doctor to assess the risk.

@manonthemoon2 You wouldn’t drive but you’d be surprised,I remember when I worked at a nursing home putting a visitors car keys on top of the car until the ambulance arrived,she knew where they where but was too hypo to get them.The ambulance arrived ,they took one look and said “Oh no not Gladys again “
