Democracies and the right to vote
@Doug
They will argue, with justification, that it is quid pro quo, given those of us who do not live in the UK but slate Boris.
The difference perhaps is that some of us, while living in France, are still reliant on UK government actions and policies, while I doubt that those who lived here but have now retired/returned to shire counties are significantly impacted any more by what happens in France.

At least Macron isn't in Putins pocket nor is he slaughtering innocent citizens.
But what do I know being an aged old fart, who has lived in France for over 35 years.

I agree - but I say any person who puts themselves in the public gaze, and on the public payroll, is also fair game for discussion by anyone anywhere - not just their electorate.

As I haven't got the right to vote anywhere now I retain a passing knowledge/interest in UK politics & no knowledge whatsoever of French politics.
I'd love to be able to vote in my chosen country of residence, if only in local elections, & would take a greater interest if allowed. I feel quite pissed that despite my not inconsiderable contributions to the French exchequer I'm allowed no voice in local & national politics.
I've always believed that if you can't influence things don't fret over 'em so my attitude therefore, lamentable as it might seem to some, is bollox to 'em all. I'll look after me & mine & until the time you give me a voice you can shove your politics where the sun don't shine.

Exit polls out .... Macron 28% and Le Pen 24% though the different sondages will give a different result.
Bet the second round will be busier with people voting against Le Pen ....

Nice to see Zemmour put in his place but very surprised that the PS didn't do better but even more surprised that Hidalgo has advised her people to vote for Macron in the 2nd tour. Meanwhile Mélenchon has to decide who he will support. Cannot see it being MLP so Macrons return to power seems assured. As always in French elections, since De Gaulle changed the rules in the 1960's, the 2nd Tour will be a choice of the "Lesser of two evils"

My God Doug look at how the French residents on here slag off PM Johnson and the UK all the time. The pot calling the kettle black methinks!

I took part in the count.
We are in an area where even 20-30 years ago the left and the commies were strong.
Now some of us worry about 46 voting for Zemmour and 119 Le Pen. Macron got 129.
Thumbs up for the British-French voters here, 100% turn out!!
And one of us has a family of Ukranian refugees in his holiday let, bless him.

How do people live without at least one dog in the house?
