Snake menace

My neighbour has a "vicious snake" in her garden, turns out to be a Western whipsnake, totally harmless if left alone, but she is sh----ng herself that it is going to gain entry and kill them in their beds. The other day she said it "stared her out", so has decided to call in the Mairie, I really don't want to get too involved but is this a Mairie matter or will she need a pest control company to relocate it.

Tell her it keeps her rat and mouse population down - and suggest she leaves it alone and it will be a benefit for her

It also probably means there are no vipers nearby too. Some clients found one in their garden last week, and asked me to identify it. I said it was a western whip, non venomous but with a bad attitude problem. They're leaving it well alone!

The French are paranoid about snakes.

A lot of people don't like small, wriggly, slimey, possibly murderous things like lizards, snakes,frogs,mice,and that bloke up the road.

Told her about the rodent situation but to no avail, typical hypocritical attitude, church every Sunday, religion is their reason to live, go and sing all things bright and beautiful then want the snake destroyed Are they not protected , not that it means much here.

I never have understood the French attitude to wildlife, I can see that you wouldn't want to step on an adder, but I've seen people nearly have heart attacks at the sight of a slow worm.
I'm trying to nurse a hedgehog at the moment which has probably been poisoned by our neighbour, I think it's a lost cause though and I'll have to put it out of it's misery. I just don't understand why people need to kill other creatures, so unnecessary and sad. Might seem like double standards there but I can't leave the poor thing to suffer and die painfully.
