Drop in for a natter about anything French related.A number of French people have asked me what I am doing to celebrate the Jubilee and seem slightly surprised when I say ‘nothing’. Have you been asked what you are doing, are you planning to celebrate in some way, have you planned an event locally and asked the locals along?

When Diana was getting buried I was driving fast round Paris to avoid it all having got the last ferry before they shut down for a few hours or more.

We've just watched the parade, brilliant as always. It's not necessary to be a royalist to enjoy the pageantry, the incredible organisation and the sheer pleasure of the thousands of people who are present because they want to be. It's likely to be the last one of this size we'll see in our lifetime so apart from some of the irritating chit-chat from the French commentators, we enjoyed it. I've always loved the music and British military bands have to be the best.
What a pleasure not to need to show military might and weaponry (even if the soldiers on parade today carry rather different rifles) and there were plenty of women participants among the men. The flag waving and smiles were genuine, a great way to unite people of different race, creed and colour. Such a different atmosphere to that of a parade in a republic ...
