A very strange bird flew over my garden

Char, a nice Transall C-160 military turbo-prop transport aircraft, a German-French design from the early sixties. Only 400 meters needed for landing and take off. Fast shutter speed of your camera looking at the propellers.

We get quite a few military flights over us, from time to time, depending on what's going on .. mostly training flights though.
In recent days these have been more numerous ..

Back in the day I did the German Military parachute course and did 25 jumps (silver wings) out of a Transall. Consequently, I have no idea what they are like for landing!

Strange thing was, they all came in the same colour scheme.

Thanks [mention]RobertArthur[/mention] for the identification - yes the shutter speed was too fast, it would have been nice to have blurry propellers.

There were two of them circling very low to the ground for ages - I had assumed that they were old planes and there must have been an air show somewhere - but after looking these up now, I see that they're still being used by the French Airforce, so heaven alone knows what they were doing. They might have been trying to demolish property in their wake, they nearly took the tops off of the trees in my hedge.

We get the military jests flying over here regularly - as Spectrum says too fast to photograph. I'm not too keen on the sonic booms though.

One year they did their night time manoeuvrers round this area, and we were woken up one night to very load noises and bright lights - I thought the aliens had finally landed, but it was just a couple of large military helicopters with their search lights on.

You're braver than me - It's difficult for me to get into a plane on the ground, I certainly wouldn't jump out of one in the air. I'm sure it's very exhilarating though.

On clear sunny days here the jets come out to play, well their pilots do, spoiling our relaxing in the garden,
One thing though they are very obedient as when I shout at them to sod off they always do.

When we were living in the Correze on a hill looking across a very wide valley my wife 20 years back was sun bathing topless the aircraft at just 1000 feet did a U turn twice overhead and flew on
