Just when you thought it was safe . . .

Well surprise, surprise.... From le Sud Ouest today:

"The number of contaminations has increased considerably this week in France, as has that of hospitalizations. This is the highest level of new cases detected since the end of April.

The number of new positive cases of Covid-19 in France reported this Tuesday, June 28 by the health authorities jumped to 147,248, or 54% more than a week ago, against the backdrop of the "seventh wave" of the epidemic in Europe."

Masks will be obligatory again soon in all public places, it has been suggested, and increased checks for travelling. After all these big events going on, it's hardly surprising .... Just hope the hospitals don't get overwhelmed, as French health workers are calling for strikes too.

Good 'ere, innit? :?

There is talk of two new Omicron variants (BA.4 and BA.5) behind the increases.

At least France seems on the ball with 4th vaccinations - more than the idiots here.

Yes, I'd read about the two new variants - we can only hope the vaccines will still be effective? Doc yesterday didn't suggest I have a 4th jab. Maybe still only available for the over 60's around here?

We're the only PCR testing centre in the area, and after a few weeks of a slow trickle of tests, mostly for pre-hospitalisation and travel, the number of people coming in for tests has suddenly started rocketing :(
A friend of ours who was fully vaccinated last year was infected just before Christmas and has tested positive a second time. The cancer treatment he was receiving at the time of the first bout probably gave him a certain amount of protection.

Jeremy Vine is suffering his 3rd dose of Covid this week, as is his pregnant co-presenter Storm Huntley.

Jeremy is triple vaccinated

I suspect a lot of people testing positive aren't bothering to self-isolate any more, particularly if their symptoms are very mild. Another problem is that asymptomatic people won't know that they have been infected...

I think that some people have seen these vaccines (as like other vaccines),completely protecting them like some invisibility cloak, when in fact they lessen symptoms and make you less ill
Over the last couple of weeks I have watched the numbers of red patients on the A&E whiteboard gradually increase, and noticed a slight increase in the number of patients with Covid related problems rather than a coincidental finding
Edit to add a doctor on Twitter who works in ‘our’ ED says every patient he saw last night was positive

I tested positive a couple of days ago & am definitely isolating. Don't feel well enough to go out & about, anyhow. No breathing problems, but totally exhausted & have to pace myself to get anything done.

I hope you feel better soon - take it easy and don't push yourself, the tiredness will probably be with you a while so don't fight it.

Heard on the radio this morning that it's advisable to wear masks again in closed spaces. I'm not surprised, it's rare to see people wearing masks now, I think people were starting to think covid had disappeared. :(
