I have just gone into streetview and this junction on the BP certainly looks to be PaD from the lack of road markings and road signs requiring the slip road traffic to give way.

and then rotate the location you should see what I mean.

This is all very enlightening to me. After all this time I have been misunderstanding the rules. I thought the person joining the m-way had the right of way to barge across and it was down to me to avoid the collision. If true, it illustrates a total inability to adjust their speed to take advantage of any gap left for them to access. I often have to brake to avoid being shunted out of the way when there is no space to my left to escape to.

@Hotrodder I come across drivers who barge their way onto roundabouts every time I go to work (one roundabout in particular). They get a blast from my horn though I will back off rather than risk a collision. Three of us were being driven by a member of our singing group and he was preparing to barge onto a roundabout and would have hit the car already there had we not all shouted at h im to stop. Since then, none of us will set foot in his car.
The concept of "clearing up" or looking ahead and judging speed/distance (rel vel) doesn't seem to exist here. When going down a slip road, it's usually possible see if the inside lane is busy, and the speed could be adjusted accordingly .... But it's downright dangerous to just barge from a slip road onto a busy motorway where cars on the inside lane are unable to move out to allow them in.

A German friend visiting us in Spain some years ago was horrified when I slowed down slightly on a motorway to allow another car to enter.
He told us that this is illegal in Germany, has caused many accidents, and is subject to a significant fine.

So to stay within the law, when someone is barging into the side of me from the slip road I should attempt to do the same to the car next to me on the left? A bit of a bugger to sort out the resulting pileup when everyone is driving in the French way (nose to tail) leaving no gaps.

Can someone direct me to where in the Code de la route it says it's illegal to slow down to allow someone to enter from a slip road? I'll admit to doing it all the time ( so long as there's nothing too close behind of course ). I tried to find it last night without success. The closest I got was the minimum speed limit. In fact I got onto an instructional website where they actually advocated it for dense traffic.
