@Lori The Aude is beautiful, a department with one of the smallest populations in France. Hot in summer and windy in the winter, much like many departments in the south ! It has an interesting history, particularly of the Cathars ...
The Hérault has some stunning scenery too - both departments are well worth a visit !

Thank you. We do plan to visit. This is supposed to be our last house purchase, so we really need to know what we're doing. Buying in a department you have only visited - to us - is quite a risk.
