French Climate activists fill golf holes with cement after water ban exemption

I'm not anti-golf, but I would rather see water being used for the commune plants/hanging baskets/tubs that everyone can enjoy ....

Just catching up with some clients with holiday homes, and seeing some family "en vacance" photos on faceache, and wonder how tourists can be made aware of droughts/water restrictions, and general safety when there's a heatwave and high risk of fire.

All seemed totally oblivious to, no constant refilling of pools, minimal watering - and only during certain hours (I know we've had some rai, but way not enough), outdoor BBQs, chainsawing down large trees, and so it goes on. When we're all trying to conserve every drop and not use anything flammatory outdoors. One photo of extended family was by a rather murky lake, wondering why they were the only ones there (and gloating!) - no signs up saying no bathing, as the heat has caused the the water to be lurgy infected.

Could/should more be done as tourists/visitors are not in touch with local news?

Rant over!!

I would have thought the simple answer would be to leave a notice somewhere prominent in the gite (or whatever) for the tourists to see when they arrive. This would be left by the cleaning/changeover team beforehand.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Which wouldn't be the likes of us, as we don't do gites etc. Good idea though - although you're putting the onus on gite owners/Campsite owners etc. Those who comes to their second homes won't have that. We thought a Govt. flyer (with pictures!) stuck up at the tills in the supermarkets - as all tourists stand there at some point or other, and it would serve as a reminder to everyone..... Perhaps I should write to my local office with the idea! :geek:

I agree - some simple posters with messages like no fires, no barbeques etc - in 4 languages - distributed widely as information posters like covid posters were. Aimed at everyone - not just tourists.

Advertising is not developed to a very high level here. The only decent posters you will see are the ones for a circus coming to town. Most of the rest will be a lump of cardboard box with something scrawled on it with an old paint brush. And then expect to see it for weeks after the even has finished.

There's funny stuff falling out of a cloudy sky here, ever so gently, ever so softly ......
For the first time in months the washing is on the line in the garage. It felt most peculiar doing that!
How do people live without at least one dog in the house?

It's been raining softly all morning here (sunny now) and we had a weekend of heavy intermittent showers. Nice, but I doubt it's gone deeper than 6-7 cms.
