As I have said before, the Government has introduced a number of "bash the landlord" initiatives. Landlords have hiked rents to recoup their losses - not to exploit tenants.

Your language is aggressive (I’m sure you agreed with the term ‘invasion’) and you are mis-representing the facts and figures. One of the main reasons that there is such a backlog at the processing centres is that the job is being done thoroughly and those with genuine cases, who happen to be the vast majority, are being separated from those who can be legitimately labelled illegal. You are also jumping to conclusions about what I would do. From my point of view as an immigrant I’m so glad that my neighbours and the people that I meet out and about treat me with humaine compassion and not the hatred you and your like generate. I’m serious about your sources I do watch the transmissions from the patriotic right wing fascists so I know exactly why you are saying what you are saying. I just wish you didn’t believe what you are hearing, it does not reflect well on you.

All very sensible sounding solutions but where will they live? Before all this started making the news there already was a housing shortage.

Many of the larger farm complexes are able to offer accommodation. It will certainly be shared living. It will probably be just short of totally crap*. It will certainly not be suitable for families. But it will be accommodation.

* There are many UK citizens forced to live in much worse.

I know, it's totally idealistic, but wouldn't it be great if all the countries spent all their war and weapon budgets on coming together and trying to find peace. Then there wouldn't be any millions of people fleeing war zones in the first place.

Trouble is that the major economies rely on the manufacture and sale of arms, and they have to be used somewhere so that the cycle can continue. If it stopped maybe people would be fleeing failing economies - where would they go?

Somewhere in my past I heard or read something about beating swords into ploughshares. Since feeding the growing population is already an issue this idea must have merit.

That is an idealistic hope in a democratic world.

Sadly, with despots like Putin, Kim and Xi with eyes on their neighbours' property I cannot see it happening any time soon - unless we just let the despots win - in which case they will still require weapons to subjugate the population.
