They are both so beautiful. I'm so sorry for your loss.

We lost our collie in 2014 after 14 years. My heart is still broken. The house was so very lonely without him.

I've not been able to bring another dog into my life. Much as I know I would love one. The pain of loss when they go is just too much.

So sorry, Blaze. They do leave a huge gap in your life. When Freddy died I vowed I’d never have another dog - but 2 months later Raffi arrived: I couldn’t cope with being completely alone.

You will have such happy memories and you gave them the best life.

Commiserations from me too, Blaze. Dogs (much more than cats) do indeed give their devotion unconditionally and quickly become memebrs of the family. I heard our last dog's claws on the parquet for months after he went over the Bridge.

Sorry for your loss Blaze It is always a pain whether expected or not, something we have to look forward to in the very near future, our Dobie is coming up to 11, and after injuring her spine she is showing signs of wear and tear, she lost the use of her back legs for a couple of weeks but with the help of a towel to support her rear half we were able to get her out to the toilet etc.. She can now walk, in a fashion, but is very unstable, and wobbles along, but all day and night is spent on the settee, however she has taken to complaining about something or another, she howls horrendously, and having gone deaf it is impossible to get her to stop, the vet says it is food orientated and it is true normally it is about an hour before feeding time in the evening she starts up. But then it has been as early as 3 am that one of us has had to get up to her, and that can go on until the 8am brekkie, the problem now is that it is taking a toll on us, but that sounds a bit harsh and selfish, we will soldier on for now.

My commiserations Blaze.
Given their relative limited lifespan, compared to ours, us doggy folk know the inevitable is bound to happen but it never seems to be any less pain when it happens.
Our last rescue mutt was with us for about 14 years which is why, at our advancing ages, we decided to give old rescue dogs, which are rarely adopted, a great few final years & not have a dog which could outlive us or our ability to look after it.
Bob, our Griffon x rescue chap was found, abandoned, apparently mis-treated & in a hell of a state. The SPA put him down as 10 years old, & thus free to an adoptee, whilst our vet thought more like 12.
Bob was ill not long after he came to live with us & found to have an inoperable tumour on his liver. He was so ill our vet gave him a few days yet, 2 years next month , he's still with us & bouncing along.He's the most gentle & affectionate dog who has a mutual love for everyone.
I'll miss him like hell when his time finally comes but will also be happy knowing his final few years were all a mutt could want.
Sorry to ramble on on your post but, if you haven't, maybe seriously consider giving an old dog a home.

Always awful when we lose a beloved animal. You gave them both a fantastic life. I'm sure they'd approve if, in time, you could give another dog such a happy home. xx

Sorry to ramble on on your post but, if you haven't, maybe seriously consider giving an old dog a home.

Oh yes, we've already given that some thought and will probably take an older dog and a younger one, though not quite yet. We've always had 2 dogs and this is the first time we've ever not had a dog in the house, it's awful, so quiet ... We decided not to get another while Sweep was with us as we didn't want to risk her getting knocked over or injured. We thought she would prefer a quiet life with us without Bimbo competing for our attention !
