@Pathca Thanks for the info - we don''t have UK TV.
I guess the court decided their injuries were enough of a punishment.

I lived in Kent for many years and know for a fact the cops turn a blind eye to the offences of so-called "travellers". You would see them cruising the neighbourhoods with their scrap wagons looking for something to pilfer later that night and those wagons were never seen to be sporting a tax disc. A neighbour of mine reported his car stolen and after a few days one of his network of friends managed to spot it, on a "traveller" camp. Flagged down a passing patrol car and told them. They would not go on to the site to investigate. Various lame excuses followed when he tried to pursue it further and was told to just take it up with his insurance company.
If you want a real eye opener watch a few of the other cop specials on UK TV. "Police Interceptors" is a good one. There will be a radio call that a suspicious car has been spotted, linked to drug dealing or stolen, etc. A specially trained driver in a very quick (marked or unmarked) police car will get to it and more often than not the car won't stop leading the cops on a merry chase for anything up to half an hour, running red lights, narrowly missing other cars by going the wrong way around roundabouts, doing 60+ in residential areas and often only stopping by crashing the car. The truly sickening bit is at the end when they inform you of the outcome in court. Most often a suspended sentence, and or community service order, never a fine, and rarely a prison sentence. These chases often tie up half a dozen police vehicles and even a helicopter costing a huge amount of already stretched resources. It leaves me thinking how useless must the police think their job really is

On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Exactly and there is little more anarchic than taking the law into your own hands.hughnique wrote: ↑Tue Nov 29, 2022 2:42 pm It's about time change was brought about all these bloody adolescents running riot, making decent citizens life a misery. I know you are biased but "report it to the police", that in itself is a joke as has been revealed on much of the media of late, more chance of getting an ambulance quicker, and I don't know what if anything was stolen, and neither did he at the time, and he did spend a vast amount of money out of his own pocket on a barrister. I suspect the scum broke speed limits on their stolen motorcycle. This is bloody anarchy in its simplest form, the lunatics taking over the asylum, it's about time we had a strong pair of hands in the government and not all these human rights and goody goody merchants.
As described the "victim" of this has lost control and chased after the perps in a reckless manner. As such he is as much if not more a danger to society than the perps. Consequently he has had to do time.
I can understand that you - and probably a lot of other people - will see it differently but think on the consequences of what happens if everyone decides to take similar actions every time someone transgresses.
Now that would be anarchy.

At the risk of being lynched, there's only so much the police and courts can do within the English justice system. What use is a fine when the offender is on benefits? Prisons are overflowing, so the pressure is huge to keep oiks out of jail.

There was a pursuit a few weeks ago near me starting when a vehicle was stopped outside Blackpool on the M55 The occupants ran a police officer over ( fortunately minor injuries)then were chased down the M6 by Lancashire,Merseyside,Cheshire and finally CMPG before being hard stopped on a slip road trying to leave the motorway at Stoke after 70-80 miles

At no time did I hear that he was driving recklessly, possibly exceeding the speed limit yes, and agreed if my son had been mown down by his car then I would have a different opinion, the same as if these two rsoles had put the motorbike into my son, But IT DIDIN'T HAPPEN. Therefore, all these what ifs are totally irrelevant, they did not take place, we are going on the evidence provided, not what might have happened if this or that. Yes he done the wrong thing and probably in retrospect realises that, but I still think 22 months behind bars is a little draconian, and they get a bit of painting to do, would you want them in your house, eying up what they could return and nick.

Thats because the sentencing system is still on a par with deportation to Australia for stealing a sheep. The wrong people are being sent to tough jails to eek out their sentence when another alternative could be available.

It could have resulted in ... but "IT DIDN'T HAPPEN" is not a defence for anything.
I don't need to pay my speeding fine because speeding could have injured people - but it didn't happen.
I should not be fined for driving down the bus lane and so slowing the movement of public transport - but it didn't happen.
Discharging a firearm in a public area could have injured people - but it didn't happen.

Unbelievable, a trial has to be heard and judged upon the facts, not hypothetical outcomes, the three stellar examples submitted by Exile are ridiculous, if his /her examples did result in the opposite, that is to say it did happen, then it would be dealt with accordingly
