Can't say I've ever noticed that in any U. In this area, most supermarkets have excellent quality veg.

We've found SU pretty good wherever we've been. We usually buy our veg from local farms, but have found that all the supermarkets round here have very good quality veg.

Our Hyper U in Mayenne has a excellent range of fruit & veg and is in the main very fresh but then it is a large supermarket covering a large area so guess stocks are replenished daily. The same cannot be said for our local Intermarche. It moved to larger premises a couple of years back and has just spent goodness knows how much on making the parking area a covered parking area. However, the fruit and veg I have to sort through as it's quite often 'gone off' with mould on some of the pre packed fruits and veg ie raspberries/blueberries/green beans etc and tomatoes and clementines that come in those cardboard boxes that you can't see into until you open the top. As for lettuce I don't buy that very often as the look of it is very off putting to the point where I've bought the bagged lettuce but not often as it's too expensive although the packs of little gems are usually OK! There is one isle of 4 shelves for chocolate and sweets which most of the time is partially empty and the same goes quite often for other food items but I put up with it cos it's about 4 km down the road whereas Hyper U is about 25 km away so I only go there if there are some good offers to be had or I'm entertaining!

Our nearest Super U is in Tannay, not around the corner (about 20 km), always fresh fish, be it large or small, not daily closed, Fresh vegs and fruit, good butchery section, nothing to complain about the rest. Regional differences?

Super U is a franchise so variations between stores is sadly to be expected

So are the Carrefour markets, they used to be ok and are now dirty and not a pleasant experience, my experience locally.

However, my local Super U, which was a total rebuild is fantastic. It’s obviously franchised but well managed.

We have been using SuperU for nearly 30 years and are generally satisfied. The annoying aspect is that if you find something you really like it will disappear -god knows why. For example Dr. Oetker pizzas have gone. We don't eat a lot of pizzas but found those to be to our taste. Does anyone else sell them I wonder?

@ AJM, It looks like Carrefour in Belgium and also in France sell these Dr. Oetker pizzas. Same recipe and ingredients as 30 years ago?

Used to use HyperU in the Vendée, excellent. Unfortunately none round here. Now use Leclerc YUKKKKK. So do the distance and go elsewhere where possible.
