Obviously just an idea  to buy or rent is expensive and not without its own set of problems, why not look at getting air/con fitted, I mean professionally, Engie have a country wide offer on at the moment, one unit fitted and working for 1500€ or if you wish 44€ per month, could be a lot cheaper, just a thought.

A great idea if you don't mind spending a lot of time inside the house, but I think one of the problems Antonia has (and one I fully understand) is that the excessive heat outside forces her to stay inside.
One of the great things about living oop north is you can do outdoor activities all year round and near the coast you get the wonderful sea breezes in the afternoons. No need to spend out on air con either 8-)

Even after 30+ years, it's the cold I can't stand! I need to migrate south with the grus Nov-April.

Could you post a reference to this offer?
I want two more units installed but am faced with ridiculously high estimates with no gov. help as my income exceeds the threshholds.

Aha! Presumably one has to be an Engie client to get this offer. :(

On the north coast, the winters are mild and the summers are rarely too hot. We rarely get ice and snow in the winter, and certainly don't need air con in the summer. That said, we live in an old stone house : modern houses can wonderfully warm in the winter, but uncomfortably hot in summer.
