Does France in Focus have the rudest members?

#1 Post by Nomoss »

This forum, of those I visit, seems to have the least topics shut down because of rude comments traded between members.

Sometimes I hesitate to post useful information on some forums for fear of insulting replies, and because I might inadvertently help someone who has been rude to me.

(EDIT: Added "some forums" above, which is what I meant to infer, and this close bracket)

I think there is only one member who falls into the "rude" category - it is easiest just to ignore them.

Otherwise, I think many on here have "known" each other over various past forums - so there is perhaps some leg-pulling resulting from such familiarity - that's all.

Or maybe I just am thicker-skinned and don't take it too seriously. Remember - it's not real life.

I recognise what you mean Nomoss. I felt sorry for the member who posted that he had found a no nonsense drill at a decent price somewhere recently only to be rubbished by many male contributors. Some responses can be quite sniffy along the lines of "I don't use cheap drills / you get what you pay for / I never use stock cubes / I always make my own coleslaw, preserves et al" They are all put downs in their way.

The particular bugbear of mine is when somebody posts something and Mr Pomposity immediately googles the topic and comes back disputing or correcting some minor point or other to gain superiority. I assume it shores up their view that the rest of the forum really believe them to be the font of all knowledge.

Having said all that, I do not think the people on here are rude on the whole. I only visit one forum at a time and only change if they fold but I do recall some long running feuds and battles on previous forums. I think things are pretty relaxed here and there is only the lightest hand on the tiller.

No, this forum is not bad at all. I could name others which are worse.

I think people here are pretty nice. Every now and then I see something I might think is a little rude, but nothing like a couple of other France forums. Sadly, quite a few posters (that I'd communicated with for years) from at least one of the other forums stopped posting there and don't seem to be here. So, we've lost touch. Sad.

Try starting a thread on 'View from my kitchen' & see what response you get
Doesn't bother me too much mind you 'cos it's a forum where every member is entitled to a reply, even if it's got naff all to do with the spirit of the post. The lack of response is probably down to nobody being interested in showing what they see from their kitchen so fair enough.
Saves one the bother of trying the same sort of thing again though. Twice bitten & all that. :)

This forum is pretty civilised due to the people on it, and is well moderated. There are the usual niggles over trivia but it’s just noise and can be easily ignored.

@L Austin France

I thought you just wanted to show us your kitchen view - I didn't realise you were inviting everyone to put up the view from their kitchen sink! D'oh!

I only participate in this forum now, and it's way tamer than any I've been on before. General rule of thumb - if you can't say it to someone's face, don't say it at all; and if the subject thread doesn't interest you or you can't help constructively, scroll on by!

The only other media platforms I belong to are a couple of big sites on fb. One where strictly no nastiness, and we are there just to laugh at ourselves and each other in a good natured way, and one that's left over from RIFT, Remain in France Together - no nonsense is accepted there either.

There's so much shite presently in the world, wouldn't it be nice to just have a couple of places where we can be decent with each other?

I came onto this forum cos at the time there was some really nasty posts going on and on and on the previous forum I subscribed to not that they involved me but I just thought that's it I've had enough reading this 'junk' I'm off and so here I am on what I consider to be a very happy forum with exceptionally helpful folks when you desperately need some help on a topic.

I thought it wasn't necessary to invite others to 'show us yours as I've showed you mine' as it always seems presumptuous & never occured to me that members wouldn't reciprocate as they usually do.
