I have a rubber type like Mangetout, but it doesn't work on everything. I usually break the seal with a bottle opener to get the air in. Sometimes just wearing a pair of rubber gloves when opening will work.

It's definitely not only ladies who have this problem.
We have a gadget like Mangetout's but I find it often slips - maybe I can't grip it hard enough? :?
If that fails I try Marigold gloves (stronger than French ones), hot water run on the top plus M gloves, occasionally I pierce a small hole to let some air in.
My last resort is my oil filter removal tool, which never fails.
The knob is turned anticlockwise to enlarge the metal loop until it fits over the lid. The knob is then turned clockwise to tighten the loop, and the handle gives ample leverage to turn and remove it.

Well as a man, I will admit that Arthur Itis has weakened my grip. I have a tool that breaks the vacuum on the lids. I find my home made jam has too good a vacuum and tapping, indeed banging violently does not always break the seal.

Ours came from a Brico-shed and was a lot cheaper than that.

When that does not work because the lid is glued on with residue, then a small bowl with boiling water and the jar inserted upside down for a couple of minutes, causes the lid to expand and the water to start dissolving the crud.

I have used the tools like that from No Moss and don't often get good results.

I just push with a teaspoon between the screw part of the lid & the glass. Hasn't failed me - yet!

Has anyone noticed that recently plastic bottle tops stay attached to the bottom ring by a thread of plastic that's impossible to break? It's got to be deliberate, but damned annoying. Especially when you go to pour the contents and the top blithely swings round and diverts liquid all over the place....

Yes. Some bottle are now providing a screw, then flip top to the bottle. This to supposedly stop the loss and ejection into the environment of the cap.

Total agreeance sometimes it's a major operation to get the top back on and likewise I don't wish to damage my gynecological hands
