EES and ETIAS explained.
Looking at the FAQs on my links above, I think any 10-line summary would be potentially very misleading.
Better read in full the article Dominic posted - and if you think it might affect you do your research using the links I posted - as others have said.
As a general rule, border forces don't react well to "I read it on the Internet"

Yes - and it is all security theatre - as is whatever the UK tries to do down the line.

EES and ETIAS explained.
The implementation of EES has been postponed until the end of 2023.
For EES, the planned Entry into Operation of May 2023 is considered no longer achievable due to delays from the contractors. The Agency is currently preparing a revised timeline that will presented for approval at the JHA Council in March 2023. The Management Board invited all stakeholders to continue their preparations for a target date within the end of 2023. In particular, border crossing points should be fully equipped for the use of the Entry/Exit System by the end of the year.

And now . . .
Sunak Wants EU Deal on Passport Checks After Post-Brexit Chaos
The prime minister hopes to reach an agreement to let Britons use EU e-gates for passport checks, the people said on condition of anonymity because the plans haven’t been made public. That would speed up border crossings because manual checks — which include passport stamps since the UK left the bloc — have contributed to frequent bottlenecks during busy periods.

There is a clearer analysis https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2023 ... u-airports
However, as it points out, "Such a deal would help ease passport queues at airports but do little to speed up border crossing checks at Dover or Folkestone, where travellers have endured long delays to catch ferries."
At the ports/Channel Tunnel/etc. it will still be necessary for car and coach passengers to get out of the vehicles to go through an e-gate style check even if their biometric details are already registered in the database.
