A lack of concentration

#1 Post by DominicBest »

I’ve just got back from a busy week away where I’ve attended a motorcycle event in the Dordogne, camped for two nights in a part of SW France that I’ve often passed through but never explored then gone on to meet up with an old school friend for a few days of motorcycling in the Pyrenees in Spain and Andorra. A good time was had by all. When I’m away on the motorcycle I always take a spare set of keys which for security purposes live in the same airtight bag as my old socks. This morning I did my clothes washing and for the first time ever poured the lot out of the bag into the machine keys and all. I switched it on and returned upstairs. Luckily at that point I luckily thought about the keys raced down and unplugged the machine. After a couple of minutes wait I was able to open the washing machine and retrieve the damp keys. All seems well and motorcycle keys must be waterproof but I’m not sure how the electronic gizmos in a modern ignition key would stand up to a full cycle and I’m not keen to find out how much a replacement would cost either.
We visited an amazing moto museum on our travels.

Where was the museum ?

I have washed a set of modern electronic keys. A good session with the hairdryer and all was well.

I always wondered why there were hairdryers in hotel bathrooms.

Love the museum photos. I suspect it is an unpopular view these days but I much prefer to see beautiful restorations like those than what is presented elsewhere in "barn find" condition.
I am envious of your recent adventure.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

The bikes were all in beautiful condition. I’m not normally a fan of over-restored vehicles but those were stunning. There were so many memories from my past too. My father had several Velocette LEs in an attempt to getting one to work properly and the ‘modern’ Honda CD175 and Honda 400F were bikes that both my friend John and I had owned.
A trip like that is still my little luxury, time on the open road with with the basics and the freedom to go where I choose.

Lovely photos.
With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never be empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way into darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine.........The Corpse Bride

Ah, a good place to pose my question maybe! A group of 5 or 6 bikers passed me last week, on my way to work near Excideuil in N Dordogne. From habit, as I saw them all approaching in my side mirror, I slowed, indicated right, to let them pass on the straight. I noticed the right foot go out as a thank you, and then noticed the UK sticker on the back of one of them. I was a bikergirl in my youf (ok, I only got up to a Suzuki GP 100, but it was still lush!), and it made me grin from ear to ear to get the bikers' thank you! Then I wondered if this was just a UK thing, or across the board? Obviously in the UK it would be the left foot! :D

I never noticed it in the uk, I used to take my hand off and wave thanks - can't do that over here obviously, so do as the French do and stick my foot out instead.
