EES and ETIAS explained.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) was meant to be implemented after Entry/Exit System (EES) had been in operation for six months. However, EES has been delayed by ongoing technical problems (including the problem of how to deal with ferry passengers).

As further delays to EES seem likely, there is now a proposal to decouple the implementation of the two systems and to allow an earlier implementation of ETIAS in May 2024
