Had a few days of sticky heat (mid 20s) but it all seems normal for dept.22. I consulted three weather forecast sites finding no agreement between them and very little accuracy. In the garden: Strawberries were about a month early, not a single apple or plum on the trees, tomatoes in the tunnel produced lots of growth but so far only two have appeared. Blackberries (bramble) look like there could be a bumper crop at some point but unless there is more rain they are unlikely to be productive. Weeds doing well as usual and the moles are on steroids.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Another windy day, and cool.
We've been picking lettuce and strawberries since the end of May. The strawberries were started off in the greenhouse then put outside in large tubs but sheltered from the wind.
The tomatoes were started off in the greenhouse then planted outside. Although the plants are producing loads of tomatoes, the plum tomatoes have caught blight, probably due to the weather conditions :(

No kidding ! I can think of no redeeming quality of a mole. Horrible creatures.

They have many redeeming qualities (just googled it!) - and can be as useful to the garden as much as they are deemed a pest. ;)

The weather at the moment is perfect for the likes of me. I feel sorry for those suffering the heat further South, and wonder what sort of weather pattern is going on to make such a difference in temperature.

I googled it Bayleaf.

In our yard, their dirt mounds have to be flattened and, in our case, all the rocks (rocky terrain) removed to protect the mower. The inevitable holes cause the garden to be very uneven. Walking almost anywhere in the garden can be somewhat hazardous as your ankle turns when you step on the uneven terrain. So, you have to walk and look very carefully.

The moles seem to form, on average, from 6 to 10 mounds every single night. I realize there is really nothing we can do to get rid of them, but I don't like what they do to the terrain.

Weather not bad today. 25c, sunny with a breeze.

Going out to work on the vines.

Well we suffer a few moles but almost nightly visits by a fox and a badger (caught on trail camera) is not doing the "lawn" many favours.

We must have those out here too. I just haven't seen them yet. Seen several deer. Tossed out some old slices of brioche in the garden figuring the birds would eat it. Sat out there for 3 days, then morning of day 4, it was all gone (10 big slices placed all around). So, I'm guessing it wasn't eaten by birds. Maybe a fox. No idea really. Property is completely closed and while I know deer can jump, I've yet to see one jump the height of the fence.

The deer fencing around tree plantations near us was a minimum of 1m80

Rain, rain, Beautiful rain.
First since the first week of July.
All this talk of 23 being the hottest on record, well certainly not in the very south of Dordogneshire, last year was so much hotter and for longer

This summer has been cool and humid. The grass everywhere is beautifully green and lush and we've done virtually no watering since the end of June.
For us the temperatures have been very agreeable, particularly at night. No complaints here !
