Back in the 1970s we holidayed in a gite near Bertric Buree and had the same spectacular storms. The gite owners said if we got caught out in one go to the nearest house for shelter and they will let you in. Is it still the same there? I know we would offer shelter to anyone here as I suspect our neighbours would.
This morning at the laboratoire and a massive strike, lights out, computers switched off and inoperative so back to paper and pen. Torrential rain and now it's bright and sunny.

@Mangetout - we used to see some pretty spectacular lightning shows from upstairs in our house looking towards Saumur.
When we first moved there, we had no idea how violent they could be and our phone was frazzled the first winter. The transformer nearby took a regular beating too. We soon learnt to unplug everything but you could still get caught out ...

The Randonneuses around here know that our boules alley is always available if they're caught in a storm.
It's a great place for drying off with plenty of seating & leccy for coffee making etc.
We've had 40-50 folk at one time during a walk sponsored by the commune.

Living here in SW France now for over 35 years we have learnt how many storms follow our river valleys, we have lived between the Lot and Dordogne rivers in a number of communes first in the Lot now the Dordogne and luckily only very strong storms have hit us.
One huge one back in the Lot and the edge of one here, where as Bergerac only 20 minutes north gets hit every storm.
Back in the Lot St Cere near where we lived yesterday had an enormous storm with many houses flooded out and large hailstones.
My daughter who lives nearby had all of her garden flattened, cave flooded, hail the size of a tennis ball.

I don't recall the loud storm and heavy rain we had in the early hours showing on any forecast for the night. Still, it's left this morning feeling quite pleasantly cool before the build-up later today to around 34C.

After a stiflingly hot and airless afternoon yesterday, we were woken at 03h30 this morning by a very loud clap of thunder. The storm lasted about 5 minutes, with some vey heavy rain, then died away. It was hot and heavy around midday but fortunately has cooled down ...

We had a couple of storms earlier in the week with son but little lumière, thank heavens. I've just looked at the week's forecast: hot, hot and more hot, with no rain until storms on Thursday -if it arrives. It's been horribly hot here today - I think I might have to move to Scotland or Denmark or some such place.

A couple of days ago I was seriously thinking about putting the heating on it was that cold and wet - today, I can't get cool and it's ridiculously hot and muggy.
Apparently next week it's going to be up to 38/39 - it wouldn't be so bad if it was constant but this cold one day and hot the next is difficult to acclimatise to.

Quite hot here and looks to be for the next 4 days or so. Volets closed 24/7 as there is no real breeze either. Salad for dinner and tomorrow will be grilled food. Not turning on the oven.

No cooking at all for us tomorrow thank goodness. We have our annual fete des voisinades - aperos, late lunch of salad, roast ham with potatoes and various vegetable concoctions, cheese, fruit and coffee avec pouse. All served with a sufficiency of alcohol or other beverages. Then petanque and a card game (Belote?) I have failed to follow (well after all that alcohol it is a bit difficult).

Mind I have spent all this morning helping to erect the tents, tables and chairs and will spend Sunday evening dismantling.
