Sardines indeed! I've never been able to understand the French mentality of sitting for hours in a slow-moving line of traffic on a motorway to get to a crowded beach...

Me either. Sounds like utter Hell on earth. We never go anywhere outside of our own little bubble in July and August.

It comes up in the news every year as if it's something that never happens. Endless interviews of folk who've been sitting in a jam for hours, same old stories ... I don't understand it either.
Those crowded beaches - it was almost impossible to walk between them. Fortunately there were no problems.
At the end, a very large, youngish woman stood up with the most ginormous naked boobs and just stood there, posing and a bit more, hoping everyone was looking at her. In fact, people just turned away, ignored her and no-one made any comment to her. A bit of attention-seeking that just had people laughing

'tis nearly as hot as it was here in 2003 but not quite, yet.

Hot as Hell here (well I presume).

Happen to have home grown cherry tomatoes roasting outside under the killer sunshine.

Looks like a red alert for tomorrow. Not sure our temperatures will actually be hotter than others but it sure is a bit warm.

Looks like we have 36 today, 38 tomorrow and 39 on Thursday. Drops to 31 on Friday, then 26 on Saturday with a chance of storms (really too far off to rely on that, but I can hope).

The problem (for me anyway) is the fact that night temps do not seem to drop below 23 or 24, so the bedroom doesn't drop below 26 to 28 degrees. Even with the volets shut.

However, Sunday morning temps are forecasted to be 13. And every morning thereafter is forecasted between 13 and 14. Again, too far off to rely on. We'll see.

It’s summer here in Berkshire again today, sunny, 24C and lovely.

A friend who’s not keen on the heat flew out to our town in France on Friday and says he’s ‘skulking’ in doors. It’s 39C at the moment there, forecast to reach 42C tomorrow and Thursday.

His wife loves the heat and spends quite some time there and he joins her for a week each year; luckily for him they are on the cool side of our building.

We normally lunch in the shade of one of our walnut trees but it was 33°C so retired to the relative coolth of the kitchen at a mere 26°C. Thank god for the A/C in the bedroom.
