Macron's party suffered another defeat in the Assemblée Nationale today when both the left and right opposition parties ganged up on Gérald Darmanin's Immigration Bill and voted it out. Elisabeth Borne can't invoke the over-ride 49.3 this time (no idea why!). Reading the French press, though, the bill could just pass before the Senate, who want even tougher new laws. So perhaps it's a sneaky, backdoor way for the government of getting what it wants after all, with bells on? https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67683314 https://www.france24.com/fr/france/2023 ... ntrouvable
Darmanin offered his resignation, which Macron refused, and he's announced that he won't resign ...
It wasn't a very impressive majority ... so as you say, the government could do better next time !
