The hypocricy of so called peace-loving religions is astounding. Nothing is learned by the traversties of history - apart from building better weapons it seems.

It's like a global anger bubble coming to fever pitch. Human nature seems to be reverting to "hate thy neighbour", as that seems easier than loving (or at least getting along with) thy neighbour. Also, to hell with saving the planet, the current generation just want a cushy life now, sod the future.

There's plenty of easy money to be made in armaments for the rich investors.
On my headstone it will say: Please switch off mobile phones. I'm trying to get some sleep.

Sounds like a repeat of 90 years ago . . . the conventional parties mess up so the people seek an alternative.
Time for more centrist politicians to admit "we have fecked up" and find reverse gear rather than allowing others to do it for them.
In UK, many of the current issues - rentals and housing, NHS, pensions - have been at least in part caused by a politician's stupidity - and that applies to both sets.
Remember - there is no situation that a politician cannot make worse.
And you cannot repeal the Law of Unintended Consequences.

So final round July 9th - 3 days after UK.
Has Macron repeated Sunak's mistake in calling it early?

Dog knows. It's a huge risk: either folk will get cabin fever and not turn out, or they'll vote as they've just done (dog help us all), or hesitate about electing a 1933-style regime to govern.
I can see the RN taking power, and I'm frightened even though I have no personal reason to worry too much.

Not sure that the RN will ever get into power as the other parties will group together so they dont.
If the RN has obtained so many votes it is because the ruling elites of Europe do not listen to their voters, do not care what they think and pursue their own agendas regardless.

Which brings me back to (another of) my hobbyhorses - referenda.
Better to get a law enacted or repealed through a popular vote rather than having to get an entire government changed.
Bring democracy closer to the people - not impose the views of an often unelected elite.

I’m not a fan of government by plebiscite , you elect a government and they should govern. Referendums are open to abuse and populism- take Brexit as a perfect example.
