Drones

#1 Post by Blaze »

There have been a fair amount of thefts recently in our region, particularly boats, outboards, garden machinery ...
This morning I heard the buzz of a swarm of bees .... no, it was a drone and it was flying slowly over our garden. I rushed inside and got my camera, whipped on a long lens and waited until it came back - which it did. I started taking some shots, then it must have "seen" me because it took off like a rocket. But not before I got him. I've put the photos on local groups on FB because there's generally a good reaction and people want to know.

Maybe there's a good explanation, but it was his rapid departure that seemed strange.

It may well be illegal to fly over private property - I think it is in the UK but have no idea in France.

They can fly over private property but have to make a declaration to the Prefecture.
However, our area is supposed to be a no-fly zone below a certain altitude ....
That machine wasn't an amateur beast. We'll pop into the Mairie later.

My niece was once topless sunbathing in their none overlooked garden and got buzzed by a drone apparently it harassed a few homes then crashed and no one claimed it back
It could well be that someone is sussing out if someone’s property is worth breaking into

My first thought - it went over to a paysagiste's place nearby - he has a lot of valuable machinery in a large alarmed barn.
The pilot must have been somewhere nearby as drones are supposed to be visible from the naked eye of the handler.

Given that door bell cameras that look onto public areas are not allowed;
given that creating a window that looks into a neighbours garden is usually forbidden by the planners;
I would be amazed if having a camera on a drone flying over private property would be allowed.

@Blaze I think your logic may be flawed. If the owner is flying in a no fly area, why would you expect them to operate with the drone in sight?

@exile That's why I said there may be an explanation - he may have been on official business !

It looked quite a sophisticated beast Blaze - maybe the Mairie knows about it and it was looking for undeclared swimming pools.

Yes, it was a whopper ! Several other people saw it and apparently the pilot was seen a couple of kilometres from here, in a fluo gilet ...

One wonders, was it an official doing a bit of snooping, or somebody pretending to be an official.
