National Anthems

It seems there is a bit of a brouhaha in England concerning the new Irish manager of the England Football team not singing "God Save the Queen".

Given a previous Italian manager didn't, and some players don't, does it matter?

I wonder if he were Scottish that there would be so much fuss?

Should it be a prerequisit?

Picky point but it isn’t God Save the Queen

According to this article, Lee Carsley didn't sing the Irish national anthem during his playing days, preferring to focus on the game and feels the same way today as coach for the England team.

He is only the interim manager I don’t know if he wants the permanent post

It reminds me of the Euros final when Spainish players were blasted for not singing their national anthem, which doesn’t actually have any lyrics
To be honest I haven’t noticed much uproar in England apart from the Daily Mail and one or two older blokes

This is why Irish rugby has 2 anthems - one for Ireland (in Irish gaelic) and one for the island of Ireland (in English), so that players from the North can sing along.
Is there anything more dreary/less rousing than God Save The (Incumbent)?

I couldn't agree more. One of the best national anthems is that of Italy - really rousing operatic stuff after the orchestral intro !
